Weddings at Christmas as truly magical affairs and this was no exception. This was the last wedding of 2015 which I supplied the wedding flowers for and what a beautiful wedding to end the year with. Kelly from Hertfordshires Christmas wedding was truly unique just like her bouquet.
I met Kelly initially from an enquiring via the internet. Kelly was a bride based down South marrying a guy from the North East, but both were living down South. So being based in Northumberland it was difficult to meet however we managed to organise most of her flowers out over the telephone and internet. But with only a few weeks to go we managed to meet to finalise everything. This also gave me the opportunity to meet the lady I had been work with over the previous months.
Kelly described how she was having an informal wedding with a Christmas theme. To make this extra unique Kelly was holding the wedding in a school. The Winter Gardens at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, Northumberland is not your usual school. This beautiful large Victorian Orangery is something special. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the venue allows the bride and groom to really add their stamp to their wedding and hold a really big bash.
When we met Kelly told me how she wanted to have a red rose bouquet with a variety of Christmas flowers, some gold twigs and succulents. She was dressing the venue with a large Christmas tree and for each table she would be having smaller Christmas Trees and succulents in china cups. Succulents are such an unusual flower, I knew this would add an interesting edge. Kelly had collected images online of bouquets that she liked. So from viewing the images I recommended that we use for her bouquet red Grand Prix roses, Hypericum, Pine Cones, Dusty Millar and Ivy which was highlighted with gold birch twigs. The effect was beautiful. For the bridesmaids bouquets I recommended bouquets with Avalanche cream Roses, Anemones, Hypericum and berried Ivy also with the gold twigs. Both bouquets were to be finished with thick gold ribbon.
Kelly told me how she wanted to inject some fun into the wedding so asked for two large bunches of Mistletoe, which are just perfect for a Christmas wedding. I am sure as the night progressed the guested enjoyed this Christmas tradition.
Finally Kelly informed me that she wanted to have some sort of hanging floral arrangement to place behind her cake as the board it would be placed in front of was very bare. So I made her a large sheaf arrangement of Christmas berries such as ilex and foliages of spruce, eucalyptus and gold birch finished with gold ribbon. This would complement her bouquet and look very festive on the board. After the wedding she would have been able to hang it on her front door throughout the festive period.
Unfortunately I never got to opportunity to meet Kelly again as friends of hers collected the flowers so I don’t know what she thought of them. However I loved them and thought they were really beautiful and festive, I hope she did too.
