Have you just become engaged? Looking forward to getting married ? Are you now buzzing with excitement about your wedding day but just don’t know where to start?
The best place to begin with is always to secure your wedding venue. You may not be aware of all the wedding venues on offer in the North East and Northumberland. So I would like to introduce some weddings venues that Alexander’s Flowers have dressed with flowers and I shall be starting with Horton Grange in Ponteland(www.hortongrange.co.uk)
In July I had the opportunity to provide the flowers for a wedding photo shoot at Horton Grange in Ponteland Northumberland. Together with DawnMarie Wedding & Event Design, Joanne Mcneil Photography, The Wedding Dress Company, The Master Cakesmith, The Event Dresser, Carly Charlston and Ashley Wallace and of course our models, we worked together to produce these great images. To reflect the character of Horton Grange, the surroundings and the time of year the themes of this shoot were to be Vintage, Rustic, English Country Garden and White Glamour.
If you have never been, Horton Grange is just outside of Ponteland and is a beautiful Victorian House. This stone built house is surrounded by mature gardens. As the dining room overlooks the gardens it is filled with light, giving it a bright airy feel. The gardens can be enjoyed from either inside or out on the decking, which is a perfect place for canapés and socialising. To decorate this area we used lanterns on wooden slices to give an outdoor feels and to add romantic candlelight to this area
Horton Grange has an intimate feel with a comfortable lounge and bar which also overlooks the garden and a small number of bedrooms for guests to stay. The benefit of this venues is that the venue is solely for the benefit of the bride and groom on the day of the wedding giving a more personal touch. As you enter the building you notice the beautiful staircase which were just too good not to decorate. In line with the English Country Garden, Rustic vibe I decorated it with lanterns on vintage orange boxes, Hydrangeas and a swirl of foliage to highlight the banister at the bottom of the stairs.
As you move outside of Horton Grange, a real focal point of the garden is the gazebo which is just perfect for those romantic wedding photos. The gazebo is such a fantastic focus I had to dress it. So with an asymmetrical foliage arch, with Hydrangeas and Amaranths dripping down it framed the gazebo beautifully. This also reflected the theme of flowers at the bottom of the staircase tying outside with in. If you are blessed with good weather and you choose to marry outside the gazebo at Horton Grange provides the perfect focal point for the ceremony. Adding a floral arch or a romantic floral heart there really adds to the romance.
No wedding is complete without the cake and to tie with the Rustic English Country Garden theme the cake (supplied by The Master Cakesmith) was dressed with a couple of Sweet Avalanche and Blue Curiosa roses and some ivy cascading down, trimmed with hessian and placed on a chunky wooden block. Placed in the window of the lounge, it perfectly framed this stunning cake
When you walk into the dinning room what strikes you the most is the light pouring in from the huge windows overlooking the mature gardens. So when creating a glamorous table centre I wanted to create flowers which reflected the natural environment outside, whilst still maintaining an opulent, vintage feel so it had to be candelabras dressed with a ring of Hydrangeas, Sweet Avalanche Roses and Amaranths. With china tea cups filled with roses at the base. To commplement this vintage look the chair covers were dressed with lace sashes from the Event DresserTo show a variety of looks for this beautiful wedding venue I provide alternative table centres. So for a more vintage themed table centre I filled a vintage teapots with white Lizzyanthus and foliage and complemented it with china sugar bowls filled with gyp and vintage books and a mini candelabras.
I also find that some of my clients for a variety of reasons want to keep flowers to a minimum during the wedding so I dressed the tables with just the glamorous candelabras and vintage china tea cup
The Wedding Dress Company provided some beautiful lace and tattoo backed dresses which are perfect for an English Country Garden themed wedding shoot. Carly Charlston and Ashley Wallace provided the delicate natural style hair and make up for models. So to complement the theme I made a mixed hand tied bouquets with baby pink and inky pink tones. I wanted the bouquet to look ecleptic, giving that just picked from the garden look. So I added Freesia, Sweet Pea and Spray Roses and added a mixed foliage of Birch, Parvi Eucalyptus and Pittsomorium.
During the summer pastels with peach, pink, white and silver has been so popular so this inspired me to create a bouquet to reflect the current trend. Creating this beautiful bouquet of peach Avalanche Roses, with Sweet Avalanche Roses, white Lizzyanthus, Bouvardia and of course this year’s favourite flower Gyp. This was all finished off with Dusty Millar and Lambs ear to add a silvery look and add texture.
The Wedding Dress Company in Corbridge supplied this glamorous strapless dress which was so white and pure finished with diamonte detail brooch belt. The bouquet needed to be simple, white and fluffy to reflect the purity of this dress, so nothing fits the bill better than a pure white Hydrangea bouquet.
As you can see Horton Grange is a beautiful venue which provides the opportunity to both take beautiful photo’s and would be a wonderful wedding venue. I had a great day there working with some brilliant wedding professionals which it was a pleasure to work with and I hope this inspires you with your wedding planning.
